If you crave sugar (and most of us do – as explained in Homo spiritus) it’s pretty hard to wean yourself off it and yet within only a few days your taste-buds can become re-sensitised. This is something I do for my guests at Fountains Court, where nutritious food is a really important part of the whole experience.
How can you do this for yourself ? Try swapping the deadly white stuff – packed into biscuits, confectionary, cakes, bottled/canned drinks and processed foods for more healthier options.
Take Maple syrup (a natural sap from the Maple Tree), it actually contains important trace elements such as zinc, manganese and potassium and also supplies protective antioxidants which help prevent certain diseases such as arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease.
A little goes a long way and it’s still very important not to consume more than a few teaspoons a day. So, for example, instead of buying shop-bought fruit yogurts – an average pot can pack about 5 teaspoons of sugar (oh my lord!) try plain yogurt, berries and a teaspoon of maple syrup. Before long you may even find you don’t need the maple syrup!
